How to turn Fast Startup off does not appear to be where it once was.

To recap, with Fast startup turned off build 10041 was doing a reasonably good impersonation of an operating system.

I even had dual boot working with the only oddity probably my fault.

After a four hour update I began looking at 10049.This was meant to be a 'tour' just to see what was new.

The only things I changed were file associations when the 'reset to default' caused something annoying (Xbox Music, Xbox Video, Photos') to happen.

For want of a better description 10049 was 'Looney Toons' and as such was trying to keep things look but don't touch.

I made the mistake of leaving the system unattended causing the 'sleep' timer to activate.

The system would 'sleep' wait two to three minutes, 'wake', wait two to three minutes, 'sleep' wait two to three minutes, 'wake', wait two to three minutes, and so on and so forth.

I observed this behavior until it lost its entertainment value.I unplugged the Ethernet cable just to see if wake on Lan wasn't working correctly.No help.

Attempted shutdown.System repowered on keystroke.

Went into power options to see if fast start had been turned on by default.

The option was not there!

Verified that shutdown acted as if fast start was on.Powered up on keystroke.

Attempted full power on reset.

Restart -- > F8 during POST to enter BIOS Boot select -- > remove AC power.

The only thing that now happens at boot is the familiar 'Black Screen with Pointer'.The only place this is not the result is booting from the install DVD.

Were the black screen replaced with a bulls eye and the pointer replaced with a cartoon character saying'That's all Folks!' it would sum things up nicely.

Edited to add, This is where I may have caused Boot Manager to be installed on a data drive the first time around. In an attempt to get the system to do something, anything, I tried using the Win-7 repair disk. In retrospect, that was probably the wrong thing to do.

At the moment I can't even think of a polite way to describe this as a question and will step away for a day or two to determine my next course of action.

The upgrade to 10049 took longer than the system had 'up' time.
